(Montel) Polish utility Tauron will build a 5 MW solar farm in the southern city of Jaworzno later this year, it said on Friday.
The firm had secured financing from a local environmental fund, it added in statement.
The Jaworzno solar farm is the first step in the firm’s plan to build 75-150 MW of photovoltaic capacity on its industrial sites.
Last year, the utility, which runs 5 GW of coal-fired plants, said it aimed to build 1.2 GW of renewables by 2025.
The new solar plant also comes as Poland aims to boost its share of renewable energy in the power mix to 25% by 2030, from a current level of 12%, to help curb emissions.
