EEX closes Paris GO unit due to lack of legal renewal
EEX has closed its Paris Guarantees of Origin (GO) unit after the French government had not renewed its mandate to operate the country’s GO registry. The closure, effective from Monday evening, has suspended all GO-related activities, including issuance, transfers, and cancellations, pending the appointment of a new operator. Despite the uncertainty surrounding upcoming GO auctions, EEX seeks to maintain its collaboration with the French ministry. In 2023, the AIB recorded 70 TWh of GO exports from France. French market specifics include monthly matching obligations, meaning power consumed in a month can be matched with GOs from the same month.
Starting from 2025, Germany will advance the deadline for disclosing Guarantees of Origin from 1st November to 1st July of the following year. This change, stemming from last May's amendment to the Renewable Energy Act, is set to take effect on 1st January 2025, with the disclosure for the year 2024 required by 1st July 2025.
